About Book of Ra
Book of Ra is a Novomatic slot released in 2005 and still one of the best known Egyptian-themed games in Europe. It plays on five reels and three rows, with nine paylines in the classic version and ten in Deluxe. Wins are counted from the leftmost reel to the right, and the whole game is built around a single symbol: the book.
The book is both the scatter and the wild. It substitutes for any symbol in a line, and three or more books anywhere on the screen award ten free spins. Before the round starts one symbol is drawn at random and becomes the special symbol: during the free spins it expands across the whole reel and pays in any position once it lands on at least three reels. That draw decides almost everything — ten free spins with a low card symbol end quietly, while the explorer or the pharaoh can turn the same ten spins into the biggest win of a session.
Four editions are worth knowing apart. The classic version returns 92.13% over nine lines. Deluxe, from 2008, moved to ten lines, redrew the graphics and raised the return to 95.1%, which is why it became the version most platforms install. Book of Ra 6 adds a sixth reel at a return of 95.03%, so combinations and the expanding symbol reach one column further. Book of Ra Magic, released in May 2018, keeps the 5×3 grid but hands out one more expanding symbol on every retrigger — up to nine in a single free-spins cycle — at a lower return of around 92%.
